"The VONS Line" by Yael Vona Jarzin
A graduate from WIZO College in haifa with a degree in graphic
design.
Yael Vona Jarzin worked as senior art director for the "Mccan Erickson
Israel"
Advertising Agency between 1992-1998. Afterwards, she began working
freelance
in advertising, graphics and product design while applying her professional
expertise
in carpentry, craftsmanship and textiles.
Over the past four years, Yael has been creating ceramic pieces
under the name
VONS, unique works that blend family history and her childhood memories
with
various artistic styles. The pieces draw their inspiration from
the Victirian Era, from
architecture, textile, advertising, graphics, childrenīs toys and
even pastry shops.
The basic forms, created on a potterīs wheel and to which are added
other parts
created by various technoques ultimately produce objects d`art that
are rich in both
color and detail.
The humor and sophistication woven into each collection are reflected
in a variety
of ways - beginning with intentional extreme of kitsch to the use
of interwoven texts.
Every piece is unique and collections are limited. Once sold, she
begins working
on new lines.
Victor: graphic pieces with clean lines, strongly associated with
advertising and
graphics from the 1940`s and 1950`s America that combines humor
and text. The line
includes ash trays, bowls and cylinders of various sizes.
Victoria: a hedonistic, royal line primarlly inspired by the Victorian
Era, when
manufacturing of majolica pieces that integrate elements from nature,
such as leaves
and birds began. Intentionally grandiose, exaggerated pieces influenced
by the hedonistic
fete. The pieces interweave symbols of nobility, from serving bowls
set on lion`s paws,
to drinking cups with pompous handles and other pieces, including
toothpick holders
with gold-plated rings.
